RAACH SOLAR signs deal for currently largest photovoltaic telecom project in West-Africa on 31 solar powered telecom stations

Dettingen an der Iller, Germany, 24.07.2019

Burkina Faso is a West-African state with over 20 million inhabitants and a territory of around 80% of the one of Germany. The dry climate with an average ambiant temperature of 30°C and an irradiation of 2000kWh/m²/year allows the photovoltaic systems to generate twice as much as electricity compared to an installation site in Central Europe.

RAACH SOLAR won an international tender because of its best price & performance ratio and a professional detailed engineering of the project. The contract for the supply and delivery of the independent photovoltaic systems to supply 31 telecom stations was signed with a leading European telecom company.

One photovoltaic system consists of solar modules with almost 10 kWp nominal power. A solar charge controller charges a 48 V-1050 Ah (50kWh) battery and supplies the telecom equipement with 48 VDC direct current. An additional inverter-charger can supply 230VAC loads and also is a back up to charge the batteries with an alternating current source. Every Pv power supply can be remotely monitored by a built-in data logger. „Taking into consideration ecological and economic aspects, we decided to go for maintenance free industrial lead gel batteries. The weight of the nearly 1000kg battery storage system plays a less significant role for stationnary application“ explains project engineer Mr. Luka Kuki from RAACH SOLAR.

The challenge of this project is in the detailed planning, in time execution, logistics, installation and commissioning of every telecom power supply across the country in Burkina Faso. RAACH SOLAR gives a 5 years warranty on the components and delivers after sales service in Burkina Faso.

„We are already active in market sections such as grid-tie photovoltaics, battery storage systems, solar pumping systems etc. With this contract we achieved another milestone in our diversified growth strategy into this new market section ‚photovoltaics for telecommunication‘. We deliver independent photovoltaic power supplies worldwide and contribute to reduce greenhouses gases to fight against climate change“ adds Mr. Jürgen Raach, general manager of RAACH SOLAR.
